This site has been a big learning process for me, and its been one of the biggest things I’ve been spending my time on, besides back to the future. I forgot to mention in my last post that we got issued a SSL certificate! Yay. I really want this site to be the best it can be, and to act as a hub for my work. At the same time, I want to be able to monetize myself while still keeping everything free, two things that generally don’t go well together. Adding to this, is my own quality standards.

I don’t want to resort to scum-bag levels of monitization, like adfly or article-text-links. I mention adfly specificly because I had used them a number of years ago to monetize my Planet Minecraft downloads, but got very poor returns (not even $1), and some ads look like the download, confusing users. I’m also not eligible for most mass forms of advertising, like adsense, due to the fact that my site doesn’t have a massive amount of content or traffic.

As you can imagine this has all been a big headache to me. After a good deal of searching options, I’ve decided to try out amazon’s ads solutions for the time being, and see how that goes. I’m happy with how they appear on PC, but mobile for some reason places sidebar widgets at the bottom of the page, hence making the ads useless, as well as stacking two in a row. So there is more work to be done.

First completed web page and the site future

Finally I’ve decided that one of the pages on this website is complete, that being the about page. On top of uploading a few more Algodoo creations (with downloads!) I worked heavily on the about page (previously just a contact form). The new about page takes a cue from the old website front page, with all the country flags displayed proudly.

You’ll also find legal information and of course the contact form. Going forward I’d like to focus heavily on the my-work page, and making that into possibly more than one page, since having the majority of the site content on one page doesn’t seem to do it justice.

As you may have already noticed, this site isn’t focused entirely on the Minecraft Server either (as was the case with the old website) and I instead plan to have a diverse set of listings, including, but not limited to, C++ work, Algodoo, html work, and of course Minecraft. In the future I’d like to have a little story that goes along with each listing, talking about creating the work, though for now I’m more concerned with getting everything posted, along with miscellaneous backstage work.

SSL and Adsense

Come to find out hosting your own website means that things get a lot more complicated in every regard. I’ve been working on getting the site to be https so that way safari, firefox, etc will like it more, and stop saying that the site is “insecure”. I’ve also learned that google seems to be in no hurry to approve or deny my adsense application. They said that an application would take around three days to be approved or deny, however we are now on day four approaching five. Yay.

New BTTF now at 24% complete

Yes sir, jsmovieguy13 and I have been working hard on the back to the future ride, bringing it from 20% to 24% complete. This is calculated based on ride time, so it is kind of deceiving. This particular part is a rather fast paced, meaning that we have to do a lot of building for something you won’t see as much of. It also means that any video footage of it is poor and blurry. On the bright side, it does mean that we don’t have to put as much work into this part. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the teaser

And because you scrolled down, here’s another image from the ride, looking backwards.
